Instant Desktop Computing, From the New Samsung Galaxy S8 Smartphone

With VDI your users can use applications on a smartphone that are designed to run on a computer. Apps are installed and run in a datacenter or trusted cloud and securely remotely accessed by workers, from wherever they are. But this does not automatically give your users a full virtual desktop experience. They can run lightweight, rudimentary apps that allow them to “get by” during an unplanned work-from-home day but not more resource-intensive, graphically rich, enterprise-grade apps—2D and 3D apps.

With Receiver (Citrix) installed in the Samsung DeX-powered smartphone (a Samsung Galaxy S8/Note8), users can have a full desktop experience from anywhere, which will improve their mobile workflow and decrease the number of devices necessary to ensure work gets done on the go.

Embrace the cloud-computing era; we keep on optimising Receiver for Android to make the digital transformation easier for you.

Using a smartphone as a PC is not a new concept. Back in 2009, Citrix released the first mobile Receiver on Windows CE, which enabled working with your business applications on mobile devices. With the evolution of computer technology, today the smartphone is becoming a much more powerful computing platform than 8 years before; the boundaries become blurred between a thin client PC and phone. Technology is pushing the smartphone to play an even more important role in the cloud era.

The joint solution from Samsung and Citrix is one of the best solutions in the market, which can easily turn your mobile phone into a desktop computer.

Additionally, how does Receiver for Android help customers smoothly transition to the cloud-based XenApp and XenDesktop Service?

Optimised user experience and enhanced security is the golden rule.

Whether operating a physical PC, laptop, or phone-powered desktop, users expect fast responsiveness and nothing less. In a virtual environment, network latency is the first challenge admins need to address. Adaptive Transport is a revolutionary solution to overcome experience downgrade caused by latency. Daniel Feller did a comparison on a slow network connection, which demonstrates how Adaptive Transport maintains the same level of experience in an extraordinary situation. Receiver for Android 3.12.4 now supports Adaptive Transport for direct connections. This dramatically improves ICA/HDX session performance.

Remember, this enhancement does not require any complex configuration, you only need to enable this policy in Citrix Studio (the management console of XenApp and XenDesktop), and all other configurations are automatically setup by a smart negotiation between Citrix Receiver and the VDA. It will determine the underlying protocol based on your real situation.

Now that you addressed the latency issue, is that all? No, Receiver for Android has enhancements in other areas as well. Session persistence is another example. Consider an office work scenario where you dock your phone to your docking station and start working on a slide from a published PowerPoint application. You then undock your phone, go to a meeting room, and start the conference. You expect when you dock your phone to the docking station at the conference room, the PowerPoint can present immediately. Now with Receiver for Android 3.12.4 optimisation, this is possible. You can keep the session running on your phone and dock/undock as necessary without affecting session state.

Security is always a big topic. Modern security solutions are layered. Receiver for Android is part of your access layer, so security is always a top priority task for us. In Receiver 3.12.4, we introduced a stricter server certificate validation policy to prevent possible security holes caused by improper certificates. Piece by piece we are building an even more secure solution for you.

There is still more work to do and it also means there are many more possibilities with Receiver for Android.

Try Receiver for Android today from the Google Play Store and embrace the cloud era!
